A NOBLE HERITAGE

"Your Word is Your Bond" since 1762

In 1762, nineteen noble gentlemen of the turf, including, His Royal Highness the Duke of Cumberland (1745 - 1790), younger brother of George III, and the Right Honourable Lord Richard Grosvenor, 1st Earl Grosvenor (1731 – 1802), each declared their racing colours "silks" to the then embryonic, Jockey Club, so that their race horses could be readily identified.

Lord Grosvenor, a shrewd gambler, shared his racing colours with Sir James Lowther, 1st Earl of Lonsdale (1736 – 1802) with whom he established possibly England's first private racing club, operating a stable of horses on which to wager with a "Your Word is Your Bond" modus operandi.

Today, Grosvenor extends a similar tradition to its members, offering you a stable of syndicated Flat and Jump horses on which to capitalise via £100,000 matched stakes credit which we can place with selected course bookmakers on your behalf without the need of the soon to be introduced, affordability checks.

Throughout the centuries Grosvenor's golden yellow and black silks have been at the forefront of British horse racing, and breeding both on the Flat, and Jumps, winning the Derby on seven occasions, the Oaks nine times, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, thrice, 1964, 1965, and 1966 with the highest rated chaser, 'Arkle', owned by, Anne Grosvenor, Duchess of Westminster.

One of the most famous Flat horses in the history of the British Turf was, the beautifully bred, ‘Ormonde’ (depicted in the painting above by Emil Adam with jockey Fred Archer up), sired by the 1880 Derby winner, 'Bend Or', out of twenty one time race winning mare, Lily Agnes.

Owned and bred by Hugh Lupus Grosvenor, 1st Duke of Westminster, at his stud, Eaton Hall, in Cheshire, Ormonde, won the 1886 Triple Crown consisting of: the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, the Epsom Derby, and the Doncaster St Leger.
